Dr. E. Allen Schlies, MD will be speaking to our chapter on "The Use of Medications on a Rehab Unit." His material will cover the role of Suboxone and Subutex in the ever-growing field of opiate detox. Also included will be Vivitrol, Campral, as well as psychotropic medications effective in treating such diagnoses as depression, bipolar disorders, and anxiety. This will be a "crash-course" you'll not want to miss. Be there early to get a seat and to write out your questions.
 
Dr. Schlies is in his 3rd year as Medical Director of MPI Treatment Services at the Summit Campus of Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Oakland. He is a graduate of the Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University in Chicago. After school he entered the Army, where he had the good fortune to meet Tamara Cagney. They ultimately became husband and wife, surely not at all surprising to those of us who know the superb integrity, intelligence, and energy of both of them!
 
Allen was one of the earliest proponents of dual diagnosis treatment. He's been in private practice since 1978, and was Director of the early development of Fremont Hospital's chemical dependency program. He is ASAM certified as well as certified by ABAM, the American Board of Addiction Medicine.
