Doug Edwards, President
Doug joined EAPA national and the SF chapter in 1985, back when it was known as ALMACA and chapter meetings were held on Treasure Island. Doug earned his CEAP in 1987 with the second national examination group. Although our name has changed and our meetings take place on the “mainland”, Doug’s reason for belonging to the group has not. “I joined because EAPA was, and is, the first, largest and most effective and credible voice for the EAP profession”, Doug says. Since August, 1999, Doug has been an Employee Assistance Program Management Consultant with United Behavioral Health EAP working mainly on management referred clients and special, regulated client populations, including Dept. of Transportation covered employers. From 1988-99, he worked for PacifiCare Behavioral Health's EAP where he managed a local regional office for their EAP and served as a clinical account manager. When not working and managing SF EAPA’s money, Doug is a hockey supporter and fan and enjoys traveling. |

Alice Tanner (with Loki), Secretary, CISD Coordinator, Webmeister
Alice joined EAPA in 2001 and was quickly struck by the uniqueness of the group and the incredible network of professionals. “The array of resources that gather each month is awesome . . . CEAP’s, treatment facilities and providers, therapists, counselors, program directors . . . . and the caliber of presenters is terrific”, Alice explains. “After years of meeting each month, this group feels more like family than colleagues. It is the one business association luncheon that I never miss unless work has me on the road." Alice is the owner of Addiction Recovery Consulting Services and is an intervention specialist and business consultant. She conducts Systemic Interventions and family workshops on co-dependency, grief, trauma, relapse and other recovery-related issues all over the country. In addition, she offers recovery plan implementation and intensive follow-up services, a unique and highly effective component of recovery work which optimizes the chances of long-term recovery success. She works with all age groups and all addictions. In her former life, she practiced law, mostly in the domestic and criminal defense arenas, and this background gives her a special connection with professionals and their families. Often she says, “If I knew then what I know now about addiction, I would have made a far better lawyer." In her spare time she enjoys hiking, traveling, writing, reading, working out at the gym, hiking with Loki . . . and life! Loki is her 3-year old Chow Chow adopted from a rescue organization in Northern California~

Norm Mcleod, Labor Chair
For the past 37 years, Norm has devoted his career to the labor union movement. Currently, he works for and is a member of ILWU/PMA as the Northern California Area Representative for the Alcoholism/Drug Recovery Program. Previously, he worked as a heavy equipment and Truck/Tractor Trainer for 14 years. He joined EAPA in 2004. Work does not interfere with pleasure, however. Norm and his new bride enjoy traveling and have been to such places as Alaska, the Caribbean and South America and Hawaii. Norm also enjoys music and is learning to play the guitar. Most of all, Norm says, “I am a very simple family man." Spending time with his children and grandchildren, having backyard BBQ’s and family gatherings are what he cherishes most. And, combining love of travel with love of family, he visits his parents and siblings every year at his birth home in Oklahoma. |

Terri Whitney, Education Chair
Terri joined EAPA in 1985, when it was ALMACA. In her current position as education chair she is responsible for working with EACC to get Professional Development Hours for CEAP's as well as maintaining the current provider number through CAADAC for continuing education hours for counselors. Terri maintains her membership in EAPA because she sees it “as a quality organization whose aim it is to make life better for the employee by providing on-going education and resources to EAP's working with the troubled worker." As a CEAP she also finds support and valued relationships in this organization. “My most treasured friendships and professional relationships here”, she says with a smile. Terri is the Executive Director for Sunrise House Alcohol and Drug Treatment Center in Concord. She has been with Sunrise House for over 20 years. Not one to be content with one job, Terri’s other work is raising beef cattle. “I own my own cattle and with my two business partners, who have their herds as well, we help each other run our businesses. I have horses that are used to work the cattle and dogs who do their best to help”, she explains. Terri has a very strong spirituality and a very strong bond with family. “Those two things keep me grounded and feeling connected." |

Jay Murray, Past President 2006-08
Jay joined EAPA in 1996, the same year he became a CEAP. As our VP and Program Chair, Jay is responsible for coordinating all the great speakers our chapter enjoys each month. Jay is a therapist in private practice in San Mateo. Part of his practice is external EAP work for a number of managed-care insurance companies. When asked why Jay continues to be an active member of EAPA, he replied, “Because I feel professional organizations are important, particularly when one is in private practice, which can be somewhat isolating." Prior to devoting his career full-time to private practice, Jay was a former Intern Supervisor for University of San Francisco and former Director of University of San Francisco School-Based Counseling Program. In his spare time he enjoys walking and being a movie critic. |
